A six-session workshop using your choice of fabrics, papers or both, to create a beautiful stylised still life piece of artwork.
You can use commercial or your own made fabric and papers for this piece. Or a mix of both. Packs of suitable materials will be for sale in the shop from mid/late April, for anyone who doesn’t have their own.
This is a guided workshop, with templates and design ideas provided. You can choose from a selection of different pots, and a choice of daffodils, daisies, tulips or echinacea to fill it. You could of course use a mix of them all! Full instructions will be given at all stages, together with a PDF, making this suitable for beginners. More experienced students may wish to go off piste and add their own elements. I’ve taught this workshop to groups with both newbies and very experienced stitchers, and it seems to work for all.
I will be using a sewing machine, but this piece could easily be hand stitched if that was your preference. Or again – a mix of both
The course will be delivered via approx. 6 videos – each between 60 – 90 minutes. These will all be in your workshop group when you join, allowing you to work at any pace that suits you. Also in your group will be a PDF of instructions, and templates. This will be a private Facebook group, where you can ask any questions and share your ideas, experiences and work. Although there won’t be live sessions in this workshop, I will be available in your group for its duration.
The group and videos will be available for a year after starting.
Session 1: We will look at the options for templates, and choose a palette of materials for our pot, flowers and background. We will then create templates to help when creating the background design
Session 2: We will learn a technique to help us create an appropriate background design for our still life piece
Session 3: We will use our design, to create a bonded background collage
Session 4: We will look at various options for machine stitching our background and then stitch!
Session 5: We will bond our pot and flowers to the background and consider options for stitching these down. And then stitch again!
Session6: we will look at finishing, binding and mounting our artwork, using your choice of either canvas or frame.
