Machine Artistry 2024: 1 year course: starts 2 December 2024: deposit

This will be a year long online course, with a set of videos delivered twice a month into anFacebook classroom. We will be looking at the many ways our sewing machines can be used as an artist’s tool, rather than just for ‘proper’ stitching.

Each month we will look at different techniques and methods for utilising our sewing machines for artwork. These will include, thread sketching, thread drawing and thread painting, texture stitch techniques, decorative stitch samplers and applications, creating made cloths and surfaces to stitch using a variety of techniques, using water and heat soluble fabrics, using sheers and lace, burning through, slashing and cutting back, working on velvets and other textured fabrics, working with metallics and foils, stitching on paper, plastics, and other unusual surfaces, creating textured fabrics with pleats tucks, and folding, creating machine tassels and cords, machine edges and joining’s,  drawn thread work on open weaves, photo transfer and stitching photos, and combining hand and machine stitch. We will also be monoprinting and painting fabrics to use.

Although online groups are larger, numbers will be limited so I can interact with all students

Cost is £40/month, payable as £120 quarterly. Your deposit acts as the payment for your first quarter
